Another annual gardening first – the cutting of the lawn.

Managed to get up at 5.30am to try and do some work and got a couple of hours in before Tom began his day and I was scheduled to take over. Lovely seeing the sun rising between the houses, literally flaming over the wall and between the bunting that I put up for ‘gardens open again’ day. Dying to get out and do some more early morning runs but my ankles have been playing up in the cold. Kind of miss the urgency for getting out that lockdown brings but now it’s just time to set new habits. Writing at dawn is the current thing.

Having got the book pretty much planned out and some other writing edited it was time to do a few seasonal jobs while the sun shone for a few hours. Including mowing that lawn.

I did quite of a bit of heavy handed seed sowing last September to try and fill in some gaps, which has led to a pretty much green all over lawn, just with some definite tufty bits. The low setting we use on our lawnmower only just trimmed the tops off these so I’ll have to keep an eye on them. Really enjoy the up and down of the procedure however, while spotting daisies and rogue bulbs in between.

The clippings then went into the compost pile, which I also really need to sort out. We have three and they need clutter removing from in front so we can access them and then a good turn or empty out so we cann start a good rota between boxes and ingredients.

Looking forward to another early start tomorrow.
